Soccer Coach

Becoming a soccer coach can be an exciting new adventure and a challenge.  To be an effective soccer coach, you must be an effective leader, be good with people (kids and adults), and have a solid understanding of the game.  A soccer coach really is a feedback system to improve player performance and refine winning strategies.
Special consideration must be given to becoming a kid's soccer coach, as you will be dealing with important developmental issues with children.  Not to mention, you will also need to balance that with feedback from parents.  Being a soccer coach isn't about fitting into a predetermined soccer coach role, rather molding your personal style to effective coaching strategies.

Begin pre-season activity with a pre-season meeting with kids, parents and coaching staff.  In the meeting, outline the fundamentals of your soccer coach strategies.  Here are some helpful tips to a successful pre-season meeting.
Be open and honest with the team, coaching assistants and parents about your coaching style, philosophies and strategies.  Clearly outline what you expect from each of them, while assuring them what they can expect of you.  It's a lot easier to be yourself than to imitate another coaching style, so just be you.
Address conduct rules for players, parents and the coaching staff.  It's a lot easier to avoid possible conflicts and behavior clashes when everything is outlined from the beginning.  Establish rules for your players and disciplinary actions that will be taken if necessary.  It takes the soccer coach and parents to keep the team on track and performing well.
Establish boundaries for parent feedback.  Abusive or heated conflict between parents and coaches is a frequent occurrence, but it doesn't have to be.  Establish firm rules that will prevent abusive sideline banter from parents.
